Following Footsteps: Quotes and Comments

My evening performance called Uncovering Icelandic Footsteps in Grundarfjordur brought the following reflection:

“The program was brilliantly structured and beautifully presented. What made it so unique was how Karen wove together, stories of ancestors and the story of her own gathering of those stories, stories and songs and artwork.  It all turned into a very eloquent picture for mind and heart. Through the stories the audience got to know different people, and their character and life became very much alive.

It is of great importance for Icelanders to learn about Icelandic immigrants, especially through the personal stories.  It reconnects us with a part in our history, that carries with it an interesting blend of pain and pride.

Karen’s performance reconnected and touched hearts, filling in some empty spaces in our knowledge and awareness of our roots.

We hope that we can build on this visit and continue our collaboration between Canada and Iceland, weaving stories across the ocean.”
